Do you practice talk therapy?

No. Secure Change Therapy does not utilize traditional talk therapy as the primary approach to treatment. Traditional talk therapy is primarily a dialogue between the therapist and client that focuses on discussing thoughts, feelings, and life experiences to gain insight and understanding. While talking is part of the healing process, sessions focus on deeper trauma work using Attachment-Focused EMDR, EMDR, Somatic Breathwork, and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). These approaches help clients process trauma-based memories, attachment wounds, and emotional patterns that may be affecting their relationships, self-esteem, and overall well-being. The goal is to move beyond insight alone and create meaningful, lasting change.

What is EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a trauma-focused therapy developed by psychologist Dr. Francine Shapiro in the late 1980s. It was originally created to help individuals process distressing memories and reduce the emotional impact of trauma. Today, EMDR is widely used to treat trauma, anxiety, and other emotional concerns by helping the brain reprocess experiences that may continue to affect thoughts, emotions, relationships, and overall well-being.

How do I know if EMDR is right for me?

EMDR may be helpful if you are struggling with anxiety, trauma, relationship challenges, difficult life experiences, or feeling stuck in patterns that no longer serve you. EMDR focuses on helping the brain process unresolved experiences that may continue to impact your thoughts, emotions, and relationships. During your initial consultation, we can discuss your goals and determine whether EMDR is an appropriate fit for your unique needs.

What should I expect during my first session?

Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin building a foundation for our work together. We will discuss your goals, explore the challenges that brought you to therapy, review relevant personal history, and identify what you hope to gain from the therapeutic process. You are not expected to share everything at once. We will move at a pace that feels comfortable as we create a plan tailored to your needs.

Do you accept insurance for therapy sessions?

No, at this time, therapy services are offered on a self-pay basis only. We accept Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) payments. We can also provide superbills for clients seeking out-of-network reimbursement from their insurance provider.
